In both the construction and oil and gas industries, the project management software, such as Primavera P6, is updated with the actual work completed, and new estimates are input into the software. The goals include accomplishing accurate and timely status updates while addressing the challenges associated with schedule delays, cost overruns, and personnel restrictions. Although the construction and oil and gas industries are different, similar workflows exist within the two industries with the same common goals. The process of updating the progress in the Primavera P6 schedule will begin with a review cycle that may be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Introduction to the Schedule Update Process in Construction and Oil and Gas Industries This article will also illustrate the benefits of simplifying this process by using ScheduleReader for both the field teams and the project scheduler.

The evaluation involved selected project management methods suitable for individual project life cycle stages, and the scope of support of individual project management methods within the respective project life cycle stages was evaluated in selected software applications. The purpose of this article is to showcase the process of gathering feedback from the field and updating the Primavera P6 project schedule through the manual use of Excel. Project Management Information System applications are primarily designed to support project management, so it is worth considering how much the available applications support the project management methods defined in the project management theory, how much software applications make it possible to get support in individual stages of the project life cycle, and if this scope is sufficient from the point of view of quality project management. An important function offered by a Project Management Information System is the possibility of sharing data concerning the running projects across the project team and their surroundings. Project managers can use a number of applications offering a wide range of functions in the areas of project planning, monitoring and continuous evaluation of project implementation, and final evaluation when it has finished. Utilization of project management methods in practice in more extensive projects is, due to high demands, only possible with support of a Project Management Information System.
